Got pretty nasty north and south of us here in da cities. We got a little wind and some light rain. Somebody else's turn for the tornadoes this time. We had one go through about 3-4 blocks from here maybe 15 years ago. Not a pretty sight....GOTT

I did really good. As it turned out my boys wanted to play too so I got the spectator role, which I like and excell at.

Lots of excitement around here today. Earthquake, highways being shut down due to biohazards in a nuts car, G20/ G8 arrests and the head of CISIS (our version of the CIA) saying there are spys for China in the BC government. Crazy stuff. Oh and my geothermal is getting installed today. They are directional drilling it. Wish I was home to see how that works. Last edited on 23 Jun 2010 10:05 pm by Revicm |

Yep, starting to rain here too. Grass has been growing like crazy around here. Nope, not rich Gott. System needed replaced so we figured a upgrade would be a good idea. I have a least 20 more years of work ahead of me to pay it off. Unless I take a dirt nap in which case it will be paid for anyhow.

Geothermal is kind of rare around here but I am aware of one company that installs it. How much area do they need landwise and how deep do they go or do they operate it off a well? It sure looks interesting...GOTT

As far as I know they can put the pipes in vertically or horizontally depending on the land. They went horizontally on mine. 2000 ft loop 6 to 15 feet deep. They put liquid in the pipe, glycol I think. The ground is always at 50o F so in the summer the pump removes heat, in the winter it takes heat. Also preheats the hot water. Supposed to be 300% efficiency compared to oil forced air which is my only other option besides wood or propane here. Pipe has a 200+ year lifespan and the heat pump is guaranteed for 25 years. The company I hired has been doing it since the late 70's and they say they have heat pumps still running strong well over 25 years. We have tax rebates up here for doing this and I increased my property value a lot. Still it was expensive. Have to pay the additional electricity bill but I won't have to get oil anymore and I will have air conditioning now.

Cool stuff. Got me interested. Now I'll have to read up on it. I don't have enough room for anything like that here in the burbs. Let me know how it works out. Good luck....GOTT

I was thinking about it after I posted. To replace my furnace, fuel tank, hot water tank and add AC would have cost at least 3/4 of the price of the water furnace. Still have about 10 cords of wood to burn yet too.
