The Education and Safety Training Section is excited to announce that we are close to the completion of the 'new option' for the Youth/Adult Snowmobile Safety CD program!

For those of you who have not yet heard, we will be offering an new 'option'  for youth 11-15 in the form of a Snowmobile Safety CD Training program.  This new CD program is another option for the public and will work very much like our current ATV Safety program.  The Youth ATV Safety Training model has proven successful for both students and instructors and will work successfully for snowmobile safety also. Bear in mind, the traditional Classroom Youth Snowmobile Safety course is not going away!

This new CD will also contain the rejuvenated and updated Adult Snowmobile Safety CD.

For youth 11-15, there are TWO parts to this new option of training.  The first part involves completing our new Snowmobile Safety CD (contains adult version also).  The second part is taking a one day (approximately 4 hours) Snowmobile Safety Training class.

Here is how the program will work when it's up and running:
1) Youth 11-15  and/or parents contact DNR for a free Snowmobile Safety CD (CD will contain youth & adult courses)

2) The youth completes the updated, informative, interactive Snowmobile safety CD at home and prints off a 'Voucher' of completion. (the exam is contained on the CD, students need to come to class having already taken the exam)

3) The youth finds a one-day Snowmobile Safety class to attend in their local area. (approx. 4 hours)

4) The youth attends the class.  The first half involves instructors leading a thorough review of important snowmobile safety topics. (from new instructor manual which contains test & answers)

5) The second half of class the student completes the DNR Snowmobile Performance Evaluation. (driving test)

6) The instructors issue temporary certificates to youth who successfully complete the class.

This is where we need you!!

This coming winter we are planning a 'test flight' of this new Youth Snowmobile Safety Training option.

We need dedicated, Volunteer Instructor Teams to teach this new, one day, Youth Snowmobile Safety class.
We will require interested instructor teams complete the CD and possibly attend a short instructor training session within the next few months.

If you're team is interested in helping us launch this new Youth Snowmobile Safety CD option, please contact Leland Owens directly, his information is below.

Thanks to all of you for your hard work on making Minnesota a 'Safe Snowmobiling' state!
