From Kevin::

Yes folks it is that time of year again and we here in T Bay are working  hard to bring you a better and bigger Spring ride this year!!!!

We are looking at a TENTATIVE date of The may Weekend of the 28, 29 and  30th, or June 4, 5 or 6.

Please note we will do our best to work around any other rides to make  sure we will have a weekend that will be Non Conflicting.

As of now we are looking to have a 2 day ride planned with some small  prizes I am trying to work out with local businesses, and having an on  trail lunch this year!

I will be posting more in the coming weeks so make sure to keep your  eyes open and possible schedules also to join us again for this event  that has been successful in the past and has been proven to be an  excellent ride with excellent people to ride with.

I welcome previous riders to chime in on what they would like to do this  year for terrain and ideas as the floor is open, THIS IS YOUR RIDE! and  we want to make it the best we can to suit your needs!

Cheers to you all and all of us in Thunder Bay look forward to seeing  you for our annual SPRING RIDE!

We have to have a passport or card this year to get into Canada right? If so I better get on the ball.

I got a card last year. Glad I did. With the card you can go to Canada and Mexico

I will not be able to make this ride if it's May 28-30> I believe Jake is busy that weekend too

Ride update:

We are planning a ride west of Thunder Bay, we are looking at staging from Kekabeka Falls, here is a link for the out of towners

http://www.canadianfriendsoffinland.ca/kbtour.htm

The cool thing is that we have a new bylaw being passed to legally drive ATV's on the shoulder of roads in the township to get to our trails in motion right now and will be ready for the ride, the city council has assured us of this, The other cool thing is that we will not need to trailer to anywhere to ride. It will be ride from your Hotel room!!!!. Kekabeka has a long history of awesome hospitality and they cater to ATVer's and snowmobiler's. I am going to approach local business owners to get as many "Spring Ride" discounts as I can to make the trip worth while for everyone.

Stay tuned, More information to follow.

For those still thinking about the Thunder Bay Spring ride, a bit of info on the ride.  We did the ride last Sunday.  It is 79 miles in total.  There is fast gravel road running, nice grassy well treed old bush roads, mud (DEEP MUD), fantastic pinic site by a river rapids, and everything in between.  There is about 20 miles of that that is not part of a loop, so a lot of new ground will be seen.  The return 1/2 is much faster than the 1st half.  The mud is in the first half, and by the end of the day, we will all be ready for a cool refreshment.

Some of the locals are thinking of getting rooms at the Kakabeka Hotel as well to stay as part of the group into the evening.

The by-law talked about in an earlier reply is not in fact in law yet - but we did get council permission to ride the streets/roads for this ride.  We will just have to behave (ride the speed limit while on the short bit of the town street).  The Kakabeka Falls Hotel will be an excellant host.  Their food is always excellant, and the beer is always cold.

Hope to see a bunch of you there

Neeje (Adrian Tessier)

Neeje I sure wish we could make it....I know for sure Jake is going to be out of town and I will talk too Viv but......is there a work around for that deep mud?

Those with 2wd machines are welcome - there are by-passes on all the deep mud areas, and we all have winches as well.

We are hoping for a great ride this year.  I am working with the 3 municipalities in the area to get them on the ATV band wagon, and so far so good.  If we can prove that a bunch of ATV's can go out for a big ride, cause no harm, obey all the rules, get no bad press, have fun, and support the local businesses, we all win.  I was interviewed on the local CBC (Canadian Boradcasting Corporation) about the ATV program in the Thunder Bay area.  Hopefully we can get a good turn out, have fun and prove to be a good thing for tourism.  If this goes well, I can see nothing but better and better rides here.

If there are some that want a ride day 2, we can look at a nice shorter ride for the 2nd day.  We would have to trailer a little for that one though.

Well - some more news of the Thunder Bay Spring Ride. We got the by-law passed in the municipality for riding on the township roads and streets. I found new legislation that allows us to travel on the TransCanada Highway, and have dealt with other legal issues. We are all good to go. There will however be a couple rules we have to follow while on the township roads and highways, and that is primarly speed. We will have a riders meeting just before we leave for the day, and all will be explained. None of it is a problem, and if we all behave - we are out for a great ride. It is EASY.

There is a great grocery store in Kakabeka Falls that will have everyting that you need for a trail lunch. The Kakabeka Falls Motor Hotel will also pack you a lunch if you ask the night before. Do not plan on a fire to cook anything, as we are in a fairly dry season, and a fire will take a while anyways.

We will be having a MANDITORY riders meeting at the Hotel at 8:00 am. We do need to discuss the route, safety, and rules of the road.

For those wanting breakfast - the restaraunt will be open at 6:00 am. In the evening there will be a chilli feast and a band will be starting in the bar at 9:00 pm. There will be a couple busses for those that want to leave their cars behind and save the ride with the constabulary.

If you need any more information, please feel free to reply to this post. Please use this post because others may have the same question that you have, or may not have thought of it.

Thank You
Ride Safe
Neeje

Just a reminder to our US frienda, make sure your Quads are clean - free of any mud and dirt - before you come across the border.  You will have issues with the customs office if they are very dirty. There is a self serve car wash in Kakabeka Falls to clean-up before you go back.  Don't forget, you need a helmet.

If there are those that want a ride on Day 2 - let me know, and we will arrange one.  We would have to trailer to it.  We have a nice area close to border which will get our US friends closer for the drive home as one idea.

Get back to me if you can, and I will work on it.
