Hi to all our friends up North. A small group of us from NW IA are planning an ATV trip to MN the first week end of June 2010. We all ride sport quads and like scenic to moderately difficult trails. (no railroad grade please) We are currently looking at the Soo Line Trail System, mostly the Red top Trail, Pine Center Trail, and Round Center Drive. The MN trail map does not show the towns near the trail system. We are looking for a motel or resort we can stay at and leave from there in different directions for 2 to 3 days of riding. Are the trails there rock, dirt, or sand? What can we expect for early June? Last year at the same time of year we went to upper WI and it was very dusty. Any information on motels or better places to ride would be greatly appreciated. THANKS LLOYD

Around Silver Bay/Beaver Bay there are the Red Dot and Moose walk trails, very nice check out the DNR website at

http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/ohv/az.html

I dont think they open till May 15. There are motels around you can stay, just cant think of any right now except AmericanInn. I believe it is in Silver Bay. Where in Iowa are you from, I am originally from NE IA near Cresco. Do you have any ATV pulls in the summer in your area?

Town nearby for Pine Center trail would be Pine Center
and Garrison

For Red Top

Isle

As far as Soo Line, it is a railroad grade and I believe connects to quite a few towns

There are a few more trails on the iron range.......

I know where Spencer is, I was near there last year did a pull on Saturday in Rolfe and one on Sunday in Emmetsburg at the fair grounds. I like to go all over and pull with different ones, just do it for fun in the stock class. I usually dont go to ones that dont have a weight limit cause usually the heavest ones win. It is more fair if they group them by cc size and limit weight as I have found out, doing this about 9 years no one can tell me weight doesnt matter. Hope to ride with you sometime if you get up north. Most trails dont open till May 1 or 15th. Hope you find some nice trails to ride in Northern MN.
